Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 cup whole milk (warm)
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 tsp chai spice blend
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
Instructions
- Activate yeast by combining warm milk and sugar in a bowl. Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit until frothy (about 5 minutes).
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Once yeast is frothy, mix in melted butter, eggs, and vanilla until combined into a sticky dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- Roll out the dough to a rectangle about ¼ inch thick; spread softened butter over it.
- Sprinkle cinnamon, chai spice, and brown sugar evenly over the dough; roll tightly into a log shape.
- Cut into 12 equal pieces; place cut-side up in a greased baking dish. Cover for another 30 minutes while preheating oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown; allow cooling slightly before drizzling with icing made from powdered sugar mixed with milk.
